Abstract

Background. Foreign bodies in the colon are rare and often present with atypical symptoms, posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

Case Presentation. We report a case of a 65-year-old male with a retained foreign body in the sigmoid colon, originating from accidental ingestion under unknown circumstances. The foreign body, a 5 cm chicken bone, was lodged with both ends in diverticula of the sigmoid colon. Capsule endoscopy suggested the presence of the foreign body, CT confirmed its location, and MRI revealed diverticulitis with wall thickening. Endoscopic removal was successfully performed without complications.

Conclusion. This case highlights the importance of considering diverticulosis as a risk factor for foreign body impaction in the colon. Early recognition and minimally invasive removal can prevent severe complications such as perforation.
