Introduction. Standard argon plasma ablation has certain limitations that can lead to heterogeneous and insufficient ablation. Modified argon plasma ablation using the external cap (MAPC) increases the accuracy and convenience of standard argon plasma ablation.
Objective. To assess the feasibility and safety of MAPC in the treatment of Barrett’s esophagus, gastric ectopia of the esophagus, and in performing antireflux mucosal ablation.
Materials and methods. During December 2025 — April 2026, three patients with Barrett’s esophagus and four with gastric ectopia of the proximal esophagus were treated. Six patients underwent endoscopic antireflux ablation.
Results. A total of 21 procedures of modified argon plasma ablation using the external cap were performed on 13 patients. 92% (95% CI 78–100%) of patients had a positive result after the first course of treatment.
Conclusion. Modified argon plasma ablation using the external cap is an effective method for the treatment of Barrett’s esophagus, gastric ectopia of the proximal esophagus, and for performing endoscopic antireflux ablation.
